Simple Rules for Padel Tennis

Welcome to MitGlobal Dubai Sports blog, if you want to learn about a sport which is becoming rapidly popular around the world, then you have come to the right place. We will be talking about Padel Tennis today and how to play it.

What is Padel Tennis? It is a sport that is a combination between Tennis and Squash. This version of the game is more popular in countries such as Spain, Mexico and Brazil, with 2019 being the year where it had expanded to countries such as Argentina, Chile and Portugal.

The history of Padel Tennis dates back to 1969 when it was created by Enrique Corcuera, with the first official rules being developed in 1975. Now, it has become a hugely popular sport in many parts of the world, with some fantastic tournaments taking place all around the world.

The reason why it has become so popular is the fact that it is a perfect combination of different techniques, allowing players to use all the strokes from both Tennis and Squash. It is an excellent sport for all players, from beginners to advanced. This is why it’s become so popular in the last few years.

Basic Rules

Padel tennis is a fun and active game to play with friends, colleagues and family. It is similar to tennis, but it is played on a smaller court and with a smaller ball. It also requires fewer players, making it easier for everyone to participate. Here is a breakdown of the basic rules of padel tennis.

Number of Players: Padel tennis can be played with 2, 3 or 4 players. If 2 players are playing, they will play together against another pair of players. If 3 players are playing, they will rotate the positions in each round. If 4 players are playing, they will play 2v2.

Scoring: The scoring system follows the same style as traditional tennis. Points are scored in singles (1v1) and doubles (2v2) form when the opposing team is unable to return the ball or if the ball lands outside of the court. When a team reaches 4 points, the game is over and the team with the most points wins.

Serving: The server must hit the ball from behind the baseline and over the net. The ball must be served diagonally, with one team serving from the left side of the court and the other team serving from the right side. If the ball does not land within the service box, it is considered a fault.

Court Dimensions: Padel tennis courts are usually 20m long and 10m wide. The net is lowered in comparison to traditional tennis and the court is enclosed on all four sides. There is also a service box at the front of the court and a safety zone in the back.

Equipment: As with traditional tennis, the appropriate equipment should be used. Players should use an oversize racket, suitable size padel tennis ball and comfortable clothing suitable for the weather and court conditions.

Advanced Rules

Pádel Tennis can be a complex game to master, with numerous advanced rules and strategies to take into account when playing. The rules of the game remain largely unchanged in advanced play – however, there are some critical nuances to consider.

Let: defines a situation in which the ball doesn’t pass the net, or is hit by a player but fails to clear it. The player is usually given an extra attempt to hit the ball, but a let is not guaranteed for every situation.

Doubles Strategy: is an important part of advanced play. All players should try to vary their positions and tactics in order to gain an advantage. Aggressive plays should be countered with strategic and precise play from both sides.

Tactical Considerations: in doubles, each player should be aware of the team’s strategy and focus on tactical play. Pay special attention when assigning roles and executing defensive tactics. This includes using angles, speed and power to outwit the opposition.

Equipment: having the right equipment can be a major asset. Invest in paddles with good shock absorption and spin control, and use a robust net to ensure that your opponents don’t have an advantage. A good quality ball will also help you control the elements of speed and spin during a match.

All players must have the right equipment in order to enjoy a game of padel tennis. The most important piece of equipment is the racket, which should be chosen according to the player’s level and preference. There are many types of rackets available in various sizes, weights, and composition materials. Generally speaking, lighter rackets are better for beginners, since they are easier to maneuver and control.

The balls used for padel tennis are also important and should be chosen according to the desired condition of the court. On harder courts, using softer and slower balls may be necessary in order to evenly distribute the force of the ball. On softer courts, harder and faster balls can be used for a faster and more exciting game.

Protective gear is another essential piece of equipment when playing padel tennis. It should include suitable clothing, supportive shoes, knee pads and elbow pads. This will help to prevent any potential injuries, both minor and major, during a game.
